IN IMAGES, IN PICTURES. Pakistan and India face extreme heatwave, reaching 50 degrees in places

For several weeks, the inhabitants of these two countries have been facing episodes of heat waves. In Pakistan, temperatures even exceeded 50 degrees.

Since late April, large swathes of Pakistan and India have been experiencing a record-breaking heat wave , which the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has deemed "consistent" with climate change. These abnormally high temperatures persist – in some places in Pakistan, the 50 degrees have been reached – while May is usually the hottest month in these parts of South Asia.

50 degrees in Jacobabad on Friday

On Friday, May 13, temperatures soared to 50 degrees in Jacobabad, in Pakistan's southern province of Sindh, the Pakistan Meteorological Service (PMD) announced.

Nationally, temperatures are between 6 and 9° "above normal (seasonal)", underlined the PMD, the thermometer displaying Friday around 40° in the capital Islamabad and the other major cities of Karachi ( south), Lahore (east) and Peshawar (northwest).

Far-right pro-Trump activists tried for sedition
