Andy Warhol's portrait of Marilyn Monroe, estimated at $200 million, sold at auction on Monday

Monday, May 9, the portrait of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol will be auctioned in New York. The journalist Loïc de La Mornais, live from Washington, tells the backstage of this sale.

Marilyn Monroe , iconic Hollywood actress, was immortalized two years after her death in a famous painting by Andy Warhol. This portrait will be auctioned on Monday, May 9, in New York (United States) and its price could soar. "However, Andy Warhol painted and made portraits of other superstars, other sacred monsters of Hollywood, like Liza Minnelli, Liz Taylor. But the icon of Marilyn Monroe outclasses all the others" , explains the journalist Loïc de La Mornais, special envoy to Washington (United States), Sunday May 8.  

A portrait estimated at nearly $200 million 

The famous painting will be sold by Christie's auction house. It "could reach heights according to estimates, nearly 200 million dollars, which would make it the most expensive work of art of the 20th century  , ahead of a previous record by Picasso" , explains journalist Loïc de la Mornais.
