Assault on the Capitol: the responsibility of Donald Trump denounced by the commission of inquiry

It was a year and a half ago, on January 6, 2021, hundreds of supporters of Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in Washington after the presidential election lost by the Republican leader.

The violence of the assault

A parliamentary commission submitted the results of its investigation after hearing a large number of witnesses, including members of the police who had found themselves on the front line facing the demonstrators.

"There were officers on the floor. They were bleeding, they were vomiting. I saw friends with blood all over their faces. I was slipping in people's blood," said Caroline Edwards, then an officer at the Capitol.

The responsibility of Donald Trump

For the parliamentary commission, Donald Trump was "at the heart" of what is qualified as an "attempted coup".

His speech, before the assault on the Capitol, according to the investigation, incited his supporters to revolt, the latter, particularly determined, considering themselves to have been robbed of the election:

A policeman died during the storming of the capitol as well as four demonstrators, three officially for medical reasons (heart attack), and a woman shot dead by an agent. These riots also caused dozens of injuries.

A year and a half later, Donald Trump continues to deny any responsibility for this violence and even assures that the assault on Capitol Hill was the “greatest movement in history to make America great again”.
